The 2020 North Shore Salon of Photography has eight categories

Prints

1.

Open:

Any subject or style of print - in colour or monochrome.

2.

Never Seen Before:

Any photograph that has never been entered into ANY competition (including regular club competitions) is acceptable. We are aiming to encourage new work, so although you may think of this as just another "Open" category, the important distinction is that your entry should never have been formally "judged" before. It may have been shown to your friends for comment, of course, but never entered for judging.

3.

'Scapes:

Any of the 'scapes - landscape, seascape, cityscape etc. You may emphasise some aspect of your 'scape, but it is important that the 'scape does not become just a background.

4.

People:

Your main subject should be a person or group of people - not necessarily a portrait, but one or more human beings should be the focus of your picture.

Digital

5.

Open:

Any subject or style of image - in colour or monochrome.

6.

Opposites:

It is often said that opposites attract. Well - prove it! Enter a picture that shows that there's no good without bad, that black is white without light, that a mouse will frighten an elephant. What big teeth you have, grandma.

7.

Red:

We're setting you a real challenge here. Maybe a picture of a red thing will excite the judges imagination. But probably you'll need to be a bit more imaginitive than that. We need to be left with the feeling that RED is integral to the subject of the photograph - the main point, no matter what else was in front of the lens. Good luck.

8.

Street:

This is essentially a subset of photo-journalism. The sky's the limit - just so long as whatever you photograph is happening out of doors and in or on a public thoroughfare, or at a public gathering. Please see the special eligibility conditions in the terms and conditions.

The following awards are awarded in each category:
Gold Silver and Bronze medals, Honours, Highly Commended and Acceptance.
In addition, The Salon Trophy is awarded to the best overall image.
