Body language

Tips

A photograph can’t capture people’s voices but it can convey many aspects of body language that tell us how a person is feeling. Think of all the emotions we have, anger, aggression, boredom, dominance, contemplation, relaxation, happiness and so they go on and on, these can all be captured in a photo. The face is the main conveyer of feelings but the hands play a major part too with the rest of the body playing lesser parts. Other elements of the image also influence how we interpret the physical appearance so consider the role of body language in the overall composition of the shot. Saying this you could perhaps just use a close up of hands or feet if they are conveying a clear message. Any number of people can be used in these images from a single person to a crowd conveying all kinds of messages with their body language. This is where the interaction between people portray all kinds of interesting body language. When looking at the composition of your image, look at the angles of the arms and legs, the shapes formed by different parts of the body, is there movement in your image, letting you in or shutting you out. Are  there tactile sensations from the body language e.g. stiff, soft, rough, relaxed etc .Remember the environment will have a big impact on the body language  The emotion conveyed in your image should be easy to read.
